Thesis Title: Transformations in Yiddishkeyt in Jewish American Fiction: Singer, Ozick, Bellow
About
Right now I'm reading The Brothers Ashkenazi. It's okay. Need to get back to Der Nister's massive tome, which is probably the best of the gigantic Yiddish novels.
The above thesis was for my BA, and it was kind of socio-linguistic, and how language affects identity.
MA's probably gonna be on Ludwig Lewisohn and Nicole Krauss, accompanied by theory from either Franz Rosenzweig, Heschel, Lukacs, James Wood or I dunno. The theme will be conceptions of history via palimpsests. Omg, so cool, right? And maybe some Benjamin for good measure.
